A Good Man Is Hard to Find the Struggle of Acceptance
John Tucker Dr. Larry Composition II 30 April 2010 The Struggle of Acceptance The short story Å"A Good Man is Hard to Find depicts absolution and change as a key variables prompting passionate strife bringing about the demise of the grandma. Both, absolution and change give thinking for the homicide and thinking to forestall the homicide. In the two cases Jesus Christ shows His effect on life, people groups convictions and thought processes. Demise, despite the fact that a horrendous occurrence, truly gives viewpoint of how Christ impacts the purpose of perspectives on both the grandma and The Misfit as focuses in duty in Him and carrying on with a Christian life come into play. The Misfit consumed his entire time on earth putting stock in something that was, as I would like to think as a devotee, wrong. It is difficult to follow something your whole life and acknowledge something completely inverse in the matter of minutes and request pardoning making it altogether hard for The Mis fit to submit toward what the grandma was attempting to convince. Carrying on with a Christian way of life, you should take in thought that pardoning participates in responsibility toward Jesus Christ. Duty is something that you don't hurry into, responsibility is something that requires some investment and is something you build. To request pardoning for wrongdoing takes fearlessness and the need to transform wrong into right. This point in The Misfits life is the place the dread of duty as well as change incurs significant damage. Changing his discernment implied changing his convictions, and changing his convictions implied transforming him. The Misfit feared change as well as scared of the way that Jesus may have really emerged from the dead, bringing about his convictions to be decimated and his life an awful slip-up. An acknowledgment this huge constrained him to wipe out uncertainty, for this situation the grandma attempting to persuade him regarding being, in her perspective, good. But the grandmas words didnt blur alongside her passing; OConner remarked on her own work saying, Å" ¦the old ladys motion, similar to the mustard-seed, will develop to be an extraordinary crow-filled tree in The Misfits heart ¦ (Kennedy, Gioia 253) Without question, In my feeling, alongside OConnors, the grandmas demonstration of contacting another child of God, pardoning and change demonstrate to show incredible impact in a people life in this story with the consequence of a radical measure finishing the life of a lady leaving an imprint on The Misfits heart and beliefs. Not just was the Misfits life influenced by change, yet the grandmas life accepting an intense turn also. Supporting my thought, Elisabeth Piedmont-Marton expressed Å"As the ways of these two characters meet . . . they are both given open doors for effortlessness. (Brinkmeyer Jr. , from Kennedy, Gioia 267) Case in point, all through the story the grandma was stressed over taking the picture of a Christia n lady other than acting like one. Being egotistical, the grandma possibly thought of herself when the area of the outing was being decided. Not just did the contest between the family and the grandma speak to her childishness however more significantly her longing to spare just herself as her loved ones kicked the bucket around her. The showdown with the Misfit gave the grandmas demeanor a turn the other way bringing about an understanding that her life wasnt being lived in a Christian way. This acknowledgment prompted an endeavor to spare the Misfits life and assist him with settling on the correct choices later on through the acknowledgment of Jesus Christ, presumably the most fair thing an individual could do in their life. The battle of tolerating Christ and tailing Him with Christian ethics truly partakes in the story and is the principle purpose behind clash. Robert H. Brinkmeyer Jr. , a pundit on Flannery OConnor, contemplated OConnors work and evidentially came to state OConn or was, Å"Trying to overcome this issue between accepting writer and unbelieving audience ¦ (Piedmont-Marton) I trust OConnor, Å"Trying to connect this gap ¦ genuinely took the battle of acknowledgment into thought deciding on her history for composing short stories and their plots.Symbolically, OConnor utilizes the grandmas expressions of influence to recommend the force that great has over shrewdness and the urgent activities underhandedness will do to maintain a strategic distance from the way that it is mixed up. Pardoning and change is among the last strides of changing wickedness, or sin, into what is correct. All things considered, fiendish settles on a decision depending on the nature of influence, for this situation the grandma depicting the way that pardoning and change is as yet a choice. Discussion about death being the factor that impacts the loner and the grandma explicitly through Christ. Then underscore how Christ is the focal point of the inside clash. And afterwa rd expand the end by discussing how the story is about death and how every confidence impacts dynamic and how the story turns out.Bibliography Piedmont-Marton, Elisabeth, for Short Stories for Students, Gale Research, 1997. Bargaining Power of Suppliers Aggregation Of Supply free essay sample
Haggling POWER OF SUPPLIER â⬠¢Bargaining power is the capacity to impact the setting of costs. â⬠¢The increasingly focused and controlled the flexibly, the more force it uses against the market. â⬠¢Monopolistics or semi monopolistic providers will utilize their capacity to separate better terms (higher net revenues or ) to the detriment of the market. â⬠¢In a really serious market, nobody provider can set the costs. Total of Supply â⬠¢Suppliers can gathering to employ all the more dealing power. â⬠¢This collection can take various shapes. â⬠¢Cartels attempt to impact costs to further their own potential benefit. In most created nations cartels are illicit. â⬠¢Sometimes providers have mystery intrigue understandings that are hard to indict. â⬠¢In most created nations, a guard dog is dependable to shield well working markets from unreasonable flexibly conglomeration. â⬠¢Cartels, similar to monopolists, will lean toward more significant expenses (I. e. higher overall revenues) at lower amount, along these lines picking a point on the flexibly bend that won't gracefully for all the purchasers that would purchase at the lower free market cost. Models Industries confronting incredible providers: The PC making industry faces the practically monopolistic intensity of working framework provider. Microsoft has manhandled its capacity various occasions and must be gotten control over by rivalry guard dogs everywhere throughout the world. â⬠¢Industries utilizing precious stones, for example, gems and hardware, face the immense intensity of DeBeers, that exploits the flexibly focus to achive prevailing piece of the overall industry Industries confronting powerless providers: â⬠¢Food processors can purchase agrarian produce from many, feeble little and medium ranchers. â⬠¢Retail stores can fill their racks with many contending items from various makers. Carriers face a duopoly of two similarly ground-breaking contenders (like Airbus and Boeing in the aeronautics business). Despite the fact that they are both large and ground-breaking, the danger of replacement is sufficient to keep their capacity under control. Dealing POWER OF BUYER â⬠¢Bargaining power is the capacity to impact the setting of costs. â⬠¢Monopsonistic or semi monopsonistic purchasers will utilize their capacity to separate better terms (higher net revenues or ) to the detriment of the market. â⬠¢In a really serious market, nobody purchaser can set the costs. Rather they are set by flexibly and request. Costs are set by gracefully and request and the market arrives at the Pareto-ideal point where the most noteworthy conceivable number of purchasers are fulfilled at a value that despite everything take into account the provider to be beneficial. Flexibly and Demand â⬠¢The gracefully bend is the connection among cost and provided amount. Typically, the higher the value, the higher the provided amount as more provider will be intrigued to create and sell at a more significant expense. â⬠¢The request bend is the connection among cost and requested amount. Regularly, the lower the value, the higher the requested amoun t as purchasers will purchase more at a lower cost. In a really serious market, gracefully and request meet at the cost where the provided amount rises to the requested amount. â⬠¢If provided amount is higher, cost will fall. â⬠¢If requested amount is higher, cost will raise. Models Industries confronting amazing purchasers: â⬠¢Defense contractual workers have a constrained arrangement of politically persuaded purchasers (governments). â⬠¢Sub temporary workers to vehicle creators have a constrained arrangement of potential customers, each ordering an enormous portion of their market. Ventures confronting frail purchasers: â⬠¢Retailers face singular shoppers with practically zero force by any stretch of the imagination. Hindrances TO ENTRY Barriers to passage are deterrents in transit of potential new contestant to enter the market and contend with the occupants. * The troubles of entering a market can shield the occupants against new contestants. * Incumbents ben efits are possibly higher than in a really serious market, at the costs of their providers and purchasers. * The higher the obstructions to passage, the more force in the hand of the occupants. The two most significant obstructions to passage are: * Capital necessities * Government approach and guidelines There are a lot of other potential boundaries that may drive new participants off: * Proprietary items and information Access to sources of info and dispersion * Economies of scale and other cost points of interest * Switching expenses and brand character Examples Industries with high hindrances of section: * Car making: high forthright capital interest in assembling gear; consistence with security and discharge rules and guideline, access to parts providers, improvement of a system of vehicle sales centers, huge promoting effort to build up another vehicle brand with purchasers. * Mining: access to inputs confined through regular dispersion and government licenses, quite certain/r estrictive investigation information, large interest in apparatus. Ventures with low hindrances of passage: * Computer Hardware retailing: everyone can begin a locally situated mail request business for PC parts. It takes little government licenses, distributer are open for each affiliate, there is no compelling reason to keep huge stock, data is uninhibitedly accessible on the web. * Photography Services: minimal starting capital venture, no guideline, no economies of scale (the restricting components are the picture takers time and his geological area). Hindrances TO EXIT â⬠¢Barriers to exit are deterrents to showcase players who understand that they won't turn a benefit and might want to stop the market. The challenges of leaving a market can constrain a player to continue contending as the least awful other option. â⬠¢The expanded rivalry influences adversely different occupants. â⬠¢Incumbents benefits are conceivably lower than in a really serious market, to the upside of purchasers. The most significant obstruction to exit is the a bsence of option, increasingly gainful utilization of the benefits in which the business has just contributed. The expenses of creating an item or administration can be generally part into fixed and variable expenses. â⬠¢Fixed costs speak to the in advance interest in apparatus and different resources expected to create the item or administration. Variable expenses speak to the extra per unit costs, work and material. From a monetary point of view, it bodes well to create and sell an extra unit of item or administration if the income produced covers in any event for the variable expenses. What is left past taking care of variable expenses is a commitment to lessen the misfortune on the benefits. Models Industries with high hindrances to exit: â⬠¢Wireless Telecom: the creation of an extra moment of remote call costs for all intents and purposes nothing, most expenses being forthcoming interest in costly gear sending. Air Travel: adding a traveler to a planned plane cost only a tad of lamp oil, instead of the immense expense of inactive planes. Businesses with low hindrances to exit: â⬠¢Retail: stock can be moved to progressively productive markets or exchanged. â⬠¢Personal care administrations: work is the most significant value factor for these administrations. Danger OF SUBSTITUTION â⬠¢On a free market, purchasers have the decision if there is a reasonable other option. â⬠¢Substitute source. The precisely same item is sourced by at least two wholesalers. â⬠¢Full substitute items are items from various makers that satisfy precisely the same reason. For instance Kellogs corn chips and conventional brand corn drops. â⬠¢Partial substitues are items that solitary somewhat substitute one another. An occasion in Venice isn't actually equivalent to a vacation in Amsterdam, despite the fact that they are the two urban communities and the two of them highlight channels. Securing against replacement â⬠¢Distributors may attempt to ensure themselves against replacement with elite circulation understandings. Purchasers evade them with purported dark market imports. â⬠¢Producers may attempt to secure their items with solid marking, exchange imprints, licenses and other mental and lawful hindrances against substitutes. Another approach to shield from replacement is to make the items contradictory with contending items. A model are the diverse focal point frameworks for SLR cameras. â⬠¢In general, protectionism against substitutes is awful for the purchaser/purchaser and useful for the dealer. Models Products/administrations co nfronting a solid danger of replacement: â⬠¢Washing powder. Twelve of brands sitting on the racks and trusting that buyers will get them. Buyer will frequently get the one that is on unique on shopping day. â⬠¢Retail Outlets. Dont like Wal*Mart? Shop at Carrefour. Items/administrations confronting a powerless danger of replacement: â⬠¢Oil. Albeit elective types of vitality are being examined and presented, most motors today run on gas. Fuel can not be supplanted that rapidly for a huge scope. â⬠¢Pharmaceuticals for the time being, on the grounds that they are secured by licenses. In the long haul, generics can gouge their piece of the pie and benefits. ( http://www. photopla. net/wwp0503/substitutes. php) Barriers To Entry Barriers to section are intended to square potential contestants from entering a market beneficially. They look to secure the imposing business model intensity of existing (occupant) firms in an industry and in this manner keep up supernormal (restraining infrastructure) benefits over the long haul. Obstructions to passage have the impact of making a market less contestable The business analyst Joseph Stigler characterized a section boundary as An expense of creating (at a few or each pace of yield) which must be borne by a firm which tries to enter an industry however isn't borne by firms as of now in the business This underscores the asymmetry in costs between the occupant firm (effectively inside the market) and the potential participant. In the event that the current organizations have figured out how to misuse a portion of the economies of scale that are accessible to firms in a specific industry, they have built up a cost advantage over potential participants. They may utilize this

Relinquished People in Of Mice and Men Essay Example Relinquished People in Of Mice and Men Essay Relinquished People in Of Mice and Men Essay Paper Topic: Of Mice and Men Steinbeck had just shown a variety of the forlorn presence of the farmhands with the more typical disposition towards George, Lennie, and Candy. In Chapter Four, this difference turns out to be increasingly articulated. Criminals, Candy, and Lennie being the three intellectually or truly hindered ââ¬Å"outcastsâ⬠on the homestead examine their fantasy about carrying on with an unrivaled way of life. There is by all accounts a solid connection to communism, which presents perspectives on partiality, opportunity, and bigotry. A Critical Review essays
A Critical Review articles For a considerable length of time our country has been bantering over the advantages that coeducational schools have versus non-coeducational schools. There are a wide range of viewpoints regarding the matter. A few people accept that young ladies face unforgiving situations while situated close to young men in the study hall. The creator of The Trouble With Single-Sex Schools, Wendy Kaminer feels in any case. She contends that the tests and data supporting the dangers of coed schools can be obliterated with a negligible measure of exertion. I profoundly can't help contradicting Kaminer that solitary sex schools are actually the contributing variables to young ladies low confidence. Through my very own experience I understand that coeducational schools may be the ideal spot for some young ladies, yet these schools are not the most secure spot for all. Wendy Kaminer lets us know in exceptionally satisfying tones of the beginnings of womens training. She says that while the schools may have supported average sexual orientation jobs, they sparked the possibility of ladies as residents. She feels that in the early years single-sex schools were the main known decision. She feels that a considerable lot of the present women's activists are insane for blaming coed schools for debilitating young ladies accomplishment. To her the fundamental spotlight ought to be on whether the foundation of all-young ladies schools is progressing or annihilating social liberties and social equity. I truly making the most of her presentation. She commends ladies as winning their privileges and pushing on towards more noteworthy triumphs, for example, training and the option to cast a ballot. She causes ladies to feel glad to have come this far. But then underneath her wholehearted joy for her own sex, she appears to feel that womens rights have gone to far. She appears to detest the very ladies she was lauding before. Toward the beginning of her article she illuminates us regarding the numerous triumphs ladies defeated to get these rights, causing us to accept she will take the side of her kindred lady. ... <!

How leaders can make their dark side brighterÃÂ
There canââ¬â¢t be many of us who havenââ¬â¢t at some point in our working lives come across leaders who have a ââ¬Ëdarkââ¬â¢ side. Maybe in the past, youââ¬â¢ve worked for a manager whoââ¬â¢s a bit of a narcissist ââ¬â someone who truly believes they are head and shoulders above everyone else, is arrogant in the extreme and only happy when they are basking in the glow of admiration from others. Or perhaps youââ¬â¢ve been unfortunate enough to encounter someone with Machiavellian tendencies.à A calculating, master manipulator, who has no morals and will do whatever it takes to achieve their goals.à à You might even have come across a psychopath ââ¬â a cold, unstable and aggressive leader who appears to be completely lacking in empathy and behaves in unpredictable ways. Of course, you may also be aware that to a greater or lesser degree, you have some of these ââ¬Ëdarkââ¬â¢ traits yourself ââ¬â and that your behavior can sometimes have a negative impact on your team. Unsurprisingly, research has shown that leaders who display these personality traits (known as the dark triad) donââ¬â¢t score highly when it comes to leadership performance.à à Their challenging and destructive behavior makes it difficult for them to get the best out of their teams, which ultimately affects their ability to achieve their goals.à à The people who work for them feel unsupported, have lower job satisfaction, lower psychological well-being and are more likely to leave. Until now, however, there has been little research on the dynamics underlying the negative relationship ââ¬Ëdarkââ¬â¢ leaders have with their teams ââ¬â and on whether it is possible for these leaders to improve their performance by takings steps to make their dark side brighter. Our recent research set out to explore the quality of the relationship between leaders and followers and in particular to look at what impact similarity or difference in their personalities might have. Overall, we found that the stronger a leaderââ¬â¢s dark traits were, the poorer their relationship with their followers was likely to be.à But if leaders took positive action to improve their relationships with their followers, it helped to ââ¬Ëbufferââ¬â¢ or mitigate the negative effect of their dark side. The research also showed that similarity, rather than difference, in leader-follower personality traits results in better working relationships.à This is partly because subordinates with similar quality traits can better understand and emphasize with their leaderââ¬â¢s behavior. If a leader and a follower both have Machiavellian tendencies, for example, they might happily join forces and come up with a clever but manipulative plan which helps them achieve their joint goals, even if it has negative consequences for the wider organization. Equally, the negative outcomes of narcissistic behavior often only emerge over time and in the early days, before the true extent of damaging behavior becomes apparent, followers with narcissistic tendencies themselves may perceive their leaders as charismatic, visionary and inspirational. The research findings emphasize the need for leaders to examine the ââ¬Ëdarkââ¬â¢ side of their personality and to think about the impact this may be having on their leadership performance. So what practical steps can people take to make their dark side a little brighter? 1.à à Acknowledge and accept you have a dark side Every leader has a degree of darkness in their personality ââ¬â this is perfectly natural ââ¬â but to ensure it does not impact substantially on leadership performance, it is important to accept it is there and be aware of when it is most likely to emerge.à We may not like admitting that our behavior is sometimes less than perfect ââ¬â but if you donââ¬â¢t acknowledge it, nothing will change. 2.à Get to know your dark side What does your dark side look like and when is it more likely to emerge?à Is your dark side more prevalent, for example, during times of stress?à à Do you know that you are sometimes tempted to take credit for otherââ¬â¢s work to make yourself look good?à Are you aware that you have a tendency to manipulate situations to get what you personally want, even if itââ¬â¢s not the right thing to do?à Self-awareness is an important first step to making your dark side brighter.à Ask for feedback or consider taking a psychometric test to help you develop a deeper insight into your personality and how you operate. 3. Understand how others view you Learning about your dark side from other peopleââ¬â¢s perspective will help you to better manage it in the future.à Ask for feedback or get your team to complete a 360 psychometric test.à As our research shows, the impact of the dark side of leadership performance differs according to other peopleââ¬â¢s personality characteristics.à Some people in your team might be more sensitive to the impact of your dark side than others.à Knowing which characteristics you display and how they are received by others is one step further towards managing the impact. 4.à Manage your dark side Once you have identified your dark side, you will be better able to manage its impact on your leadership performance.à Keeping yourself physically and mentally healthy is one way of keeping your dark side in check, as it is more likely to emerge when resources are depleted.à It is also useful to identify what triggers activate your dark side so that you can avoid these or at least be prepared to deal with the consequences.à Taking part in executive education that involves stress-inducing experiential learning is one way you can learn, in a safe environment, about how your dark side emerges during times of strain. 5.à Mitigate the impact When your dark side emerges ââ¬â as it inevitably will at some point in your career ââ¬â think about how you can reduce its impact on your leadership ability and the people you are leading.à One way of doing this is to develop coping mechanisms that can be applied during times of strain.à Scenario planning, for example, or set behavioral routines might be useful ways to help manage yourself and reduce the impact of your behavior on others. 10 Things You Need to Know About Dorm Life
An inevitable change that comes with the victorious freedom of moving out, and the intense education-level up that is College, dorm life is a minefield of unknown challenges. To help prepare you for this next great task, the massively wise Magoosh team of magical sages got together to come up with a list of ten things you might not expect, but should know, about dorm life. They hope you read, and avoid making their mistakes! 1) Ask current students when researching dorms. Ronke lived in Clark Kerr and Unit 3 during her years at UC Berkeley. And although she did her research and knew Unit 3 is ââ¬Å"located one block from campusâ⬠, she didnââ¬â¢t know it would be cheaper than Clark Kerr, and have more social energy. She didnââ¬â¢t know that Clark Kerr would be chock full of sports players who dominated the dining hall. So when its time for living assignments, make sure to ask students to give you the low-down on the facts you really need to know (like these 14 Things Prospective Students Should Know about UC Berkeley). 2) Honors dorms donââ¬â¢t mean no social life. Peters experience in the honors dorm at the University of Arizona was full of all-dorm BBQââ¬â¢s and like-minded people who both studied their butts off and liked to have fun. There was never competitiveness, and he absolutely recommends living in the honors dorm at your school (most large public universities have them) if you can. 3) You will make lifelong friends. Magoosh intern Maizie (also at the University of Arizona) met her two best friends in the dorms. In fact, almost every Magoosher mentioned that they have friends from college that they still hang out with today. But as Peter (who met two good friends and wife in the dorms) puts it best, you donââ¬â¢t have to stress about finding them because ââ¬Å"People are desperate for friends!â⬠After all, thatââ¬â¢s one of the main purposes of orientation. 4) You will have to work to be social. That being said, socializing doesnt come unless you take the right steps. Ronke highly suggests leaving your door open, and going to other peopleââ¬â¢s rooms. Maizie says go to the RAââ¬â¢s cheesy activities, because they will actually help you meet people. There is a culture of almost forced social interaction, but try to just accept it for what it is and find friends who you feel comfortable with. 5) Orientation and freshman year will probably be an excited/nervous/awesome blur. Peter and Mark agree that the entirety of the first year of college is chaotic and high energy. In their opinion, there is a magical energy that clings to freshmen that practically shouts, ââ¬Å"OMG WEââ¬â¢RE FRESHMAN.â⬠Thatââ¬â¢s not a bad thing, but actually unifying because youââ¬â¢re all going through it. Just be prepared to experience the constant combination of stoked and terrified. 6) Itââ¬â¢s okay if your roommates arenââ¬â¢t your best friends. Lena (who attends Harvard University) says itââ¬â¢s actually a good thing if you and your roomies arenââ¬â¢t the best friends. The reason being if you go out and hang out with them and then come homeâ⬠¦and hang out with them, you get can a little sick of each other. The best medium is to be friendly (and able to go do things if you want) without having to be together all the time.à 7) Living with people you know from high school might not be the best. Maizie lived with two girls from her high school to avoid the terror of random roommate assignment, and quickly regretted it. Because college is an opportunity to reinvent yourself and be a new person, living with people that know all your drama from high school can hold you back. For Maizie, it ended up being so bad that they stayed at home on the weekends. 8) Youââ¬â¢ll have to work a lot of things out for yourself. In college, no one is going to police you the way teachers, administrators, and parents have in high school. Often times youââ¬â¢ll have to figure out your friendship issues, find better ways to study, and decide things for yourself. General advice from Magooshers is to solve roommate problems before they happen, donââ¬â¢t be passive aggressive (no sticky notes or text messages) and above all, remember your roommates have to live with you too. 9) Clean up after yourself. Most college disputes happen over the little things, like doing dishes and taking out the trash. And not leaving food to rot in the minifridge, or blowing snot rockets in the shower (Iââ¬â¢m looking at you, UC Berkeley coed showers). Just make sure you respect the fact that you are living with other people who arenââ¬â¢t your mother who will clean for you. 10) Colleges are very different, so dont be afraid to transfer if youââ¬â¢re unhappy. Mark transferred from Hofstra University to UMass Amherst halfway through his freshman year. As he explains, the two schools are radically different in terms of social scenes, dorms, and campuses. He also says missing orientation was difficult because students had established friend groups, but it wasnââ¬â¢t an impossible task to make friends. So if you really arenââ¬â¢t adjusting well to your knew school, transferring is always an option. Good luck everyone! Please comment withà your own dorm advice or fears.

A robust, rhythmic under-structure, blue notes, solos, ââ¬Å"call-and responseâ⬠patterns, and improvisation of melody all characterize jazz music.â⬠In Jà ¼rgen Grandtââ¬â¢s analysis, he states that in order to use jazz to look at African American literature, the critical model must ââ¬Å"avail itself not only of the structural characteristics of the music, but also of the history of the African American musicians who invented, shaped, and innovated it.â⬠(Grandt, P. 14) In other words, ââ¬Å"jazz critiqueâ⬠of Africanâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The theme is the ââ¬Å"basic melodyâ⬠of the novel. The novel is told as if it were performing a jazz arrangement. Henry Louis Gates Jr. states in his review of Jazz ââ¬Å"a disembodied narrator slips easily and guilelessly from third-person all-knowingness to first-person lyricism, without ever relaxing its grip upon our imagination.â⬠Morrison mixes music carefully into the novel, differentiating the various emotions, and illustrating how the emotions can be expressed through images. It tells the lives of Violet, Joe, Dorcas, Felice, Sweetness, and others in Harlem, New York. The novel is set in a period nicknamed the ââ¬ËRoaring Twentiesââ¬â¢, just like the beginnings of the jazz genre. Morrison describes New York City very vividly, just like jazz music does. This technique, which rambles and improvises, plays with the relationships between noises, and contrasts different musical ideas in creative ways. This is the most jazz-like aspect of the novel. Morrison uses Jazz as a way of glorifying African American styles of expression, and imaginative and ethnic creation, as well as forming a new mixture of forms of expression. The Effects of Schizophrenia on the Brain Essay - 901 Words
The Effects of Schizophrenia on the Brain Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness that affects one to two percent of people worldwide. The disorder can develop as early as the age of five, though it is very rare at such an early age. (3)) Most men become ill between the ages of 16 and 25 whereas most women become ill between the ages of 25 and 30. Even though there are differences in the age of development between the sexes, men and women are equally at risk for schizophrenia. (4) There is of yet no definitive answer as to what causes the disorder. (6) New test and machines also enabled researchers to study the structure of schizophrenic brains using Magnetic Resonance Imagery (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS). The different lobes of affected brains were examined and compared to those of normal brains, showing several structural differences. The most common finding was the enlargement of the lateral ventricles, which are the fluid-filled sacs that surround the brain. The other differences, however, are not nearly as universal, though they are significant. There is some evidence that the volume of the brain is reduced and that the cerebral cortex is smaller. (2) Tests showed that blood flow was lower in frontal regions in afflicted people when compared to non-afflicted people. This condition has become known as hypofrontality. Other studies illustrate that people with schizophrenia often show reduced activation in frontal regions of the brain during tasks known to normally activate them. (1) Even though many tests show that the frontal lobe function performance is impaired and although there is evidence of reduced volume of some frontal lobe regions, no consistent pattern of structural degradation has yet been found.Show MoreRelatedSchizophrenia And Its Effects On The Brain866 Words à |à 4 PagesSchizophrenia is a mental psychotic disorder that diminishes the ability to distinguish reality from fantasy. Management And Leadership Of A Wound Care Nurse Essay
Management and Leadership of a Wound Care Nurse According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), 2.5 million patients are affected by pressure ulcers and incur costs anywhere from $9.1 billion to $11.6 billion per year in the United States (AHRQ, 2014). As of October 1, 2008, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will not reimburse hospitals for cases in which the pressure ulcer was acquired after admission (CMS, 2008). Because of this high cost, the number of patients affected each year, and insurances no longer reimbursing hospital acquired pressure ulcers (HAPU), an accurate skin assessment upon admission is critical to reduce costs, ease pain in patients, and lower incidences of pressure ulcers. This paper will address what leadership and management skills and functions are required of a wound care nurse who identifies a problem with the accuracy of skin assessments on newly admitted patients. The Wound Care Nurse as a Leader Working as a leader, the skills the wound care nurse would need to possess are the ability to motivate staff to change, being empathetic towards staff, and emotional intelligence. To motivate staff, a leader would have to gain the trust of all the stakeholders involved. Motivation gives strength and energy towards whatever value is being pursued and can help stimulate growth (Yoder-Wise, 2011). Flexibility and the Work-life Balance
Question: Write an essay on Work-Life Balance. Answer: Introduction: The flexible working has been described as the manner of working arrangement which provides some significant degree of flexibility on where, how long and when shall the employees perform their tasks. The statutory right to order the flexible working might have assisted to make flexible working a much simpler and familiar phrase all within the workplaces, the flexible working kinds of the arrangements have always been a prompt option in so many of the employment sectors in longer tenures, which helps the employers come across the changing requirements of their clients and also the requirements of their staff: Clients always expect to get the goods and the services available apart and outside of the usual and traditional 9-5 hours of working (Meenakshi, 2013) Workers desire to achieve a much-balanced ratio between the work and the home life. Companies desire to achieve the needs and requirements of their clients as well of the workers in a manner that shall enable them to become more and more productive. The flexible arrangements of working are always already used in so many Employment sectors, like the following: The part-time duty/work, which is often used in restaurants, hotels, warehouses, shops, etc. Flextime, which is mostly brought into use at the based environments for all kinds of the staff below the level of the manager in the public as well as the private sector organisations The annualised hours, these are at most of the times brought into use for the manufacturing and the agriculture where there might be a possibility to be big variations in the demand all throughout the year time (Chandra, 2012). With the enhancement and the developments of the sectors of technology, which implies mainly to the availability of the communication tools like the fast domestic smartphones or the broad bands, so many of the roles can be compatible with to the forms of the flexible working management and the arrangements. Flexibility and the original paradigm: In the earlier times, there existed a war between all kinds of the various organizations refers the talent recruitment. Each and Every company is eager to retain and also acquire, the better the best talent for working in their organizations. But nowadays, the companies are focusing mainly so as to reduce the part time work week and all such a kinds of work arrangements which shall enhance the flexibility and the support at the workplace with the retention of the working staff or the employees (Hetty van Emmerik Sanders, 2005). That is the reason why; many of the employees are performing the reduction and that too inevitably in the labourers which shall provide new opportunity so as to find out the measures for the redesigning of the roles and also the brand new measures to the doing of the jobs and on the other hand also support the workers to get and maintain a balanced life in their personal lives as well with more flexible manner. Bourke has never been much comfortable refer the heading for the reshaping of the flexibility argument. Instead of this, the flexibility at the workplace enhances the productivity and on the other hand also diminishes the cost of the production of the goods for any of the organisation (Chan et al., 2015). Bourke has always been concerned with the statement of the flexibility as she had always thought that it has been always shifted from the real one and has not been for the betterment. As per her thinking, the concept of the flexibility now regards the more goods production by employing lesser employees who are not a real argument to the original concept. She has always been worried about the reverse or the negative effects of the thought and the thinking. In case the concept which concerns the workplace is taken into use in a manner which is nasty, the employee can get to know about the adverse impacts of the working place flexibility refer the organisational economy (Haar, 2013). The organization can lessen the working hours of the workplace of the workers in case they are not required and cannot put the load of the work upon the shoulders of the worker for whom the workers have to pursue working longer hour in the company which shall reduce the output and the performance plus the loyalty of the workers. Thus, the flexibility concept has the adverse impacts on the company, in spite of having any kind of positive and appreciable impacts. Refer the business environment; when the demand of any of the product or the service is reduced in an organisation, at this point there should be a reduction in the hours of working of the workers by the concept of flexibility and it also leads to the balance of the work-life of the workers (Hayman, 2 009). The flexibility and the assistance program of the employee are considered as the main element of the strategy of the flexibility and it shall support so as to develop a diverse, adaptive and high result oriented and performing workforce which has the tendency and ability to even achieve the requirements of the business. So many of the options and the voluntary flexible work may be provided to eradicate the redundancies, plus the wages or salaries may be paid according to it. In some of the companies, where there exists very firm cultures that relate to the work-life and its balance do have or even do not redundancies are very inevitable. The working executives have here at visualized the advantages of the concept of the strategy of the work-life balance which are the managers and the leaders of the company sort out the appropriate and the alternative ways to reduce the cost and also lessen the redundancies (Mishra Smyth, 2013). The leaders and the managers very well know that appropriate staff is required for working so that they may get the required results and move their organisation towards the successful way in both shorters as well as longer tenures. The flexibility has always been the most effective as well as the most efficient way or tool for the achievement of the concept of the work-life balance, and this is totally irrespective of the fact, whether or not the employees working in that organisation are part-time workers or full-time permanent workers (Omar, 2013). For instance, the teleconferencing has been the latest strategy which is taken into use to reduce the travelling, costs which were at earlier times being spent in huge amount. Thus, we can very clearly say that the concept of the flexibility has moved away quite significantly from the real paradigm which is required and inevitable. The concept of flexibility has got both positive as well as the negative outcomes and impacts. Thus, proper management is of prompt importance which may help for the effective and much more efficient working of the concept of flexibility refer the work-life balance. Excessive working hours and the employees performance In the firms or the companies, the workers have to perform working for the various hours so as to complete their responsibilities and works. The excessive hours of working may be transmitted into the below-described categories as per the requirement; extended hours of each day, overtime, overtime hours and the extended time for the commuting (Moore, 2011). There exists an adverse impact refer the excessive working hours which is evident and directly impacted on the outcome and the performance of the workers and is also for the association of the workers with them like their families, employee, and the community. Some of the significant researchers have stated that there are various risk indications which are directly connected to the excessive working hours as these are very much affected or influenced by so many of the reasons that are within the control of the employees (Parkes Langford, 2008). The most important negative outcome of the excessive hours of working is the sleeplessness and very less time, which they get so as to take care of the families and fulfil the personal responsibilities. So, in case if any of the workers have to pursue his duty for long hours, in such a condition, his performance, as well as the health condition, are both affected which makes that concerned employee feel demotivated in case he does not get appropriate incentive of the hard which has been put by him. Refer the needs, their sayings, and the suggestions are required to be given a good vintage, as this shall again boost them up to work even harder and bring about the sense of belongingness in the minds of the employees (Pruneda, 2015). The seniors of the organisation, are required to carry on a motivational training session for the employees, who shall keep them refreshing all the times, and boost them to perform and bring out even brighter results for the organisation. Proper time management and other beneficial techniques are required to be taught to them so that they get to know about the latest happening and technological inventions which shall make they're working easy and interesting. Important activities should be separated from the worthless and ordinary activities. The leaders and the supervisors of the organisation have to perform such activities which encourage the employees for the increased working hours. Employees must be encouraged for the submission of the work on time. The training and the techniques related to the time management are to be discussed with the employees (Snchez-Vidal, Cegarra-Leiva, Cegarra-Navarro, 2012). The important activities are to be removed from the ordinary and the worthless activities. The effective communication within the organisation is to be encouraged. The leaders and the supervisors are to develop such vision and objectives in the cost of the employees and also the power is to be provided to the employees for achieving the objectives and goals of the organisation. For the employee motivated, the leaders of the organisation must express the satisfaction at the time of achieving the desired goals to be rewarded in the form of the incentives at the time of the achievement of the desired goals and objectives of the organisation (Welbourne, 2014). The effective management tool is also to be applied by the managers of the organisation for the effective management of the task. Hence, the organisation with the excessive working hours can motivate its employees with the promotion, extra wages, and incentives this increase the loyalty and the engagement of the employees towards their organisations. Economic Downturn and the Work-Life Balance: At the time of the economic downturn, the companies cannot manage to pay for the monetary payment to the employees of the companies for their performances. The present scenario of the economic conditions, there is a hard pressure on the organisations for the increased productivity and has to face the challenges of the recession in a better way; this is only possible if the employees of the organisation are more involved with the wok and their workplace. In the present scenario of the economic slowdown, any company which avoids any of the issues related to the work- life balance of the employee will result in the lower productivity of the company, which in turn will found it hard to overcome the challenges of the recession. The companies neglecting or avoiding the work-life balance due to the pressure of the recessionary are required to realise the significance of the employee engagement and the productivity in the long term (Whittle, 2008). It is also required to promote the initiatives of the work-life balance. If the pressure of the recessionary is attached with the lesser employee engagement and the productivity will generate the new challenges for the survival of the long- term and the medium organisation survival. During the economic downturn, the workforce management is quite necessary with the traditional and the other benefits which are to be given to the employees such as the retirement plans and the insurances (Giannikis Nikandrou, 2013). At the time of the normal situation of the organisation, the employees will be helped for the comeback in the organisation and also will help in the survival in the world of competition. During the economic recession, the policies of the workers are to be cancelled or postponed which also causes the impatience among the employees. Excess of the worries and the workload in the workforce leads to the health problems and stress among the employees of the organisation. For the better performance of the workforce in an organisation, the company must clear the employees of the organisation are the part of the organisation and have to struggle with the downturn and to come together effectively with the collaboration (Daverth, Hyde, Cassell, 2015). This will lead to proper harmony and the team proper that is required at the time of the economic downturn. The development of the mutual objectives will lead to the greater attachment of the employees and employers and employees work for the better performance as they think that they are committed. The employees should be empowered for the achievement of the goals. Even in the situation of the economic downturn, the employer should express satisfaction, when the objectives are achieved and the employees are also rewarded with incentives for the motivation. Employers should not be partial for any types of the employees and should be vigilant and responsible. The employers should avoid biases in task assignment to the employees otherwise, it creates insecurity in the employees. At the time of the economic downturn, if an employer follows the above-mentioned concepts to facilitate the work-life balance, then the organization will surely succeed in the overcoming this downturn. Conclusion: In the situation, when the employees have to work for the excessive hours, the managers and leaders of the company should guide the employees properly to keep them motivated and perform better for the organization. This flexibility work life balance also helps in the management of the performance of the employees at the time of the economic downturn, if the employer properly follows the concepts of the performance management. In addition to the positive impacts of the flexibility in the working hour management, there are also the negative impacts (Whittle, 2008). To overcome, these negative impacts the company should properly manage this concept and apply in the organization. Hence, it can be concluded that the companies need the workforce with the improved or the better work life balance. Hence, an employee, experiencing the better work-life balance will contribute in a large way for the success and the growth of the organisation. About the organization Gandhi Pulse mill is a manufacturing factory that is located in India. The company deals with different pulse products such as millet, paddy, wheat and tobacco. It is situated in the central part of Gujrat that occupies 55,000-aq of land. The company faces various competitors such as Raja Pulse Mill, Jayesh pulse mill, and Ganpati Pulse Mill (Dhiman, 2015). Over the years the company has become recognized as one of the suppliers. They can handle two thousand two hundred customers both regionally and abroad. The company has been constituted with three warehouses where various products of pulse have been manufactured(Veeravalli, 2014). The company has implemented a customer service system to fulfill the need of the local quality as well as the local clients. However, the organization has been facing problems of balancing the supply and demand as well as delivering on quality products across the internal market and domestic demand. Discussion of achievements since the last reporting The research proposal schedule aimed at conducting the study for three months. The study aimed at addressing the issue of an insufficient number of products across the market, there was also the problem of maintenance of the quality of the products and the difficulties for making a balance between the demand and the supply of the outputs. On the research, I have been able to conduct a survey of fifty local customers of Gandhi Pulse Mill. The questionnaires have been administered through random sampling method to give each sample size equal chances from the population. Further, the customers have been able to provide an innate response on how they have faced ineffective service procedures they have encountered from the company. There has been an interview that has been conducted on five managers who are employed in Gandhi Pulse Mill on the challenges for regaining on their business market(Dikshit, Basak and Vagrecha, 2014). The data collected would be essential for the qualitative ana lysis purposes. Additionally, for the purpose of the secondary data, I selected a case study based on the organizational challenges exhibited from Gandhi Pulse Mill. Discussion of the problems that have arisen During the research, problems have arisen. Some of these issue are insufficient funds for the research. The research requires a lot of funds. The funds, which were allocated for the research were inadequate. Questionnaires required to be printed and handed out to the respondents this costs a lot of money. Other problems are; getting the company to participate(Amit and Zott, 2012). During the research it difficult to get the participant to recruit for the study of whom did not want to participate voluntarily. Some of the participants went to the extent of asking for payment to take place in the research study. Sometimes, there was a problem of staying motivated and working towards a plan. In the school, have had different classes where lecturers have given numerous assignment and did not have enough time for the research thus, failure to follow the plan as formulated(Dumas, La Rosa, Mendling and Reijers, 2013). Lastly, was the issue of dealing with the data. There was a problem to mak es sense of the collected data. The data collected was a lot and analyzing on it was hectic and challenging. Progress of work ahead To date, it has taken two months to implement some of the research study objectives. Data collection using questionnaires has been done on 50 customers of the Gandhi Pulse mill. They have provided responses on ineffective service procedures they have faced(Ahirwar, 2007). This has been able to address on the objective on why there is an imbalance between supply and demands exhibited in the company. Secondly, the questionnaires have addressed why there is inefficiency in the customer services that is being seen at regional and global clients. The research has also handled the interviews of five managers on how the business is facing challenges. The report implemented a third milestone of the entire project. Components of project Time schedule Implementation Data analysis and finding( qualitative and quantitative analysis) 20/11/2016- 30/11/2016 underway Reliability and validity 1/12/2016-7/12/2016 To be implemented Summary 8/12/2016-13/12/2016 To be implemented Recommendation 15/12/2016-20/12/2016 To be implemented Additional work There are two tasks which are to be completed in the coming weeks. With the results obtained from the qualitative analysis and the field observation, there would be risk analysis. Further, a risk analysis model would be formulated to identify the risk factors that could cause the organizational challenges to be rampant in Gandhi Pulse Mill and ways to effectively manage them. Assessment of meeting of the objectives of the proposed schedule and budget In the research had helped in issuing of the questionnaires that were distributed to fifty customers of Gandhi Pulse Mill Company. Further, the interview was carried on five business managers of the company in regards to the organizational challenges(Goetsch and Davis, 2014). Moreover, a case study on Gandhi Pulse Mill Company would provide insight on effective practices that have been proven to produce positive results on the significance of maintaining the product quality for the business organizations(Veeravalli, 2014). Additionally, the best effective customers services that should be offered by companies and ways to maintain an effective customer relation with the organization. These insights tend to address the objective of the research as well as offer solution to the problems affecting Gandhi Pill Mill organization. Summary/comments The project has been going well, and my coordinator has been incredible in helping me to become more enmeshed in the research area. Through the guideline, I have learned how to formulate, research objective, data collection methods, budget and schedule for the research project. This is useful to work on the project efficiently and deliver on the results that are not biased in regards to the problems associated with Gandhi Pulse Mill Company and give recommendations on the same.
